A guide to a coastal holiday with your dog

When travel bans are lifted, there will be many of us who cannot wait to get away and enjoy a beautiful coastal getaway as a family. A relaxing holiday not too far from home is often the most practical way to enjoy a change of scenery, especially with so many scenic coasts across the country to choose from, where our whole family can make the most of the beaches and warm weather.

For a lot of families, furry companions are a must to bring along when holidaying locally within the UK, so in order to keep your hound happier than ever on your next coastal trip, be sure to consider these tips to keep their tails wagging.

Choose a dog-friendly location

There are many stunning coastal locations across the UK, with the southern coast of Devon being a popular hotspot for many families and dog lovers to enjoy, with a selection of national parks, dog-friendly pubs, and beaches to explore. The South West Coast Path is a great day out with a selection of different walks to choose from, making each visit unique. Here, it is guaranteed that our dogs will get the exercise they need and is an easy way to keep my whole family entertained with spectacular views of the coast and countryside.

Dog-friendly accommodation

For the ultimate coastal getaway, Sweetcombe Cottage Holidays offer dog-friendly accommodation throughout Devon to suit any size family, along with some gorgeous beach chalets located in Branscombe on the sea edge itself for an authentic beach retreat. Here, you can bring along up to two furry friends to enjoy your sea-view stay.

Stay prepared while exploring

Ensure that you pack a few essentials that your pooch will need throughout the day if you are planning a long walk or a full day out in the sun. Items such as poo bags, water, a collapsible bowl, and treats will be needed to keep your dog happy and hydrated as they play and enjoy their adventures.

Plan ahead

No matter how long you are going for, planning my family’s daily adventures will save me a lot of hassle that may occur if plans are left until the last minute. By planning your trip ahead of time, arrangements can be made for those places where dogs may not be allowed, such as restaurants, to ensure that they are not left too long on their own. If you have children and a dog, choose to explore areas that will entertain the kids as well as stretch everyone’s legs, like local parks, gardens, and sandy beaches for a picnic. If you get to your destination with an outline of where you are planning to visit each day, it will be one less thing to think about each day and give you more time to relax.
