This morning I did something that I have wanted to do for a long time but have been putting it off…
Today I joined a gym!
Can you believe it?
I took those brave steps into the unknown and popped into my local Fitness Express gym to sign up for a membership. Feeling like a fish out of water (as let’s face it I’m not exactly the vision of health & fitness) I was welcomed by Nathan who kindly gave me the guided tour of the facilities and explained exactly what was available for me to use.
I’ve always used the excuse that I don’t have time to attend the gym, but in reality they open early in the morning and don’t close until 9pm weekdays and 8pm on weekends. So I’m hoping to go once I have dropped Roo and Tigger at school on Tuesdays and Thursdays mornings (depending on whether I have to cover my job share) plus a an hour or so Sundays whilst Mr Boo is at home with the kids. I can opt to take Roo with me swimming and just pay £2.75 for her which I think will be lovely as Tigger really hates swimming.
Fitness plan
So that I can work on all my problem areas I have a chat booked with one of the fitness assistants who will draw a personalised plan for me depending on what I want to achieve from attending the gym. Following that I will have an induction on how to use all the different pieces of equipment safely.
Gym clothing
I have absolutely nothing that is considered gym clothing, well maybe an old polo shirt but I don’t think the paint splatters would go down too well. I’ve got a good pair of trainers and I need to get a good sports bra but other than that I am at a loss as to what I need to buy.
Do you attend a gym?
What would be your clothing recommendations?
NHS discounted membership
Working for the NHS I am lucky in that many different places offer discount (much to Mr Boo’s embarrassment when I’m asking at the checkout of various places… if you don’t ask, you don’t get) so I of course asked whether I’d get any discount and I managed to bag 15% off my membership each month… result!
Wish me luck!
