London is a fabulous city, and while it is known as our capital city, some of us don’t really visit unless we have to. Tourists flock to the city on a daily basis taking in some of the most famous sights we have to offer, but yet, as Brits, we possibly only venture into the capital for reasons such as work or occasionally for recreational purposes. However, like any city in the UK, there is much to see, do and explore and actually it can be a great day trip out or holiday that would suit all ages.

I thought I would explore some of the ways that a trip to London as a family could work for you, no matter how old your children are.

Family Trip To London: Top Things To Do

Natural History Museum

If you have babies and toddlers

Surprisingly, you may think that London isn’t really a place to go for a day trip or weekend away when you have such a young family, but actually, there is so much in the city that they would enjoy doing so it really should be one to consider for the future. Perhaps you could try and enjoy some of the famous museums. Most of the time, they have great exhibitions that are great for young children to get involved in. Even heading to the Natural History Museum will have young children fascinated by some of the exhibits on offer.

Children also love a sense of adventure, so why not allow them to see this vast city from a height. The London Eye is a great attraction for young and older children to enjoy, as well as travelling up places like The Shard to see the skyline from a great height. The sheer excitement of being so high up will have children occupied for ages.

Young children like toddlers and even babies love to be outside, so you may want to take a visit to Kensington Palace, while they may not appreciate the building and what it stands for the gardens are a great way to enjoy and unwind. The special memorial garden for Diana, Princess of Wales is also one to see.

If you have pre-teens and teens

I guess if you have older children you may find that it could be a little easier to try and keep them occupied and enjoying a city such as London. As they are a little older, they may enjoy nicer lunches where you are touching your food, or even a chance to see some of the classics that are on at the West End. You could watch the classic Les Miserables, or enjoy something like The Book Of Mormon.

Shopping and visiting other sites like Madame Tussauds might also be of interest to pre-teens or teenagers as they may love the idea of taking selfies with some of their most believed celebrity crushes.

As there are so many great things to see and do, even what I mentioned for younger children might appeal to your older children as well. Museums and even art galleries like the Tate Modern could ignite some new interests and passions amongst your children and keep you all excited about different things.

Just for the adults

Finally, maybe you have older children and you want to spend some time away with them and a visit to London can be the ideal way to do it. As you have older children, or even just having a weekend away with your partner, you can consider enjoying some of the fine restaurants and bars that London has to offer. There are some amazing Michelin-starred restaurants to enjoy such as Angela Hartnett Murano in Mayfair or Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea. You might also be able to relax and enjoy some of the wonderful bars on offer and the atmosphere they can create.

As adults, you may also want to enjoy the shopping and fabulous local markets on offer such as browsing Portobello Road and Camden Market. These can be great places to peruse some of the amazing things on offer in locations such as these. As adults you can really enjoy the city like a local, perusing the South Bank and also some of the other sights we have already previously mentioned.
