As a child my family holidays consisted of a day trip to Blackpool, Morecambe or Silloth. We never had the money to stay for a week or venture further afield.
It was only when I was 12 did we manage to have a whole ten days away in Great Yarmouth. We enjoyed the holiday and returned for a further two visits before making the decision to relocate 300 miles to become tourists who stayed.
I’ve only ever been aboard twice, once for my honeymoon with Mr Boo and then a trip to Spain when Roo was 5 months old. I was so traumatised by travelling with a young baby and no help given at the airport, on the flight and passport control that we haven’t been back. Although the cost of passports, baggage, flights, transfers plus the actual holiday soon all adds up.
We have chosen to take UK holidays with Roo and then Tigger as a family. There is so much to see on our doorstep why would we need to travel abroad?
This year we are heading to Butlins, we were lucky enough to be chosen as one of their ambassador families. We have never been to Butlins or to a holiday resort where everything you need is all under one roof (so to speak). I’m looking forward to not having to load up the car to travel between activities like we have had to do on previous family holidays. Hopefully giving us more time to relax and enjoy our holiday.
