What a year it has been! With the sun finally peeking around the corner and permission to spend more time outside it’s really important to make sure young explorers are thinking about sun safety this summer and remember to Wrap Splat Hat.
Teaching children to be sun safe as they explore the great outdoors thanks to Garnier Ambre Solaire and in association with the British Skin Foundation which has become more important than ever as only 53% of us use suncare frequently while outdoors in the UK!
Wrap Splat Hat!
The Wrap Splat Hat programme features fun lessons and activities that have been designed and written by education experts that will help teach children to Wrap, Splat, Hat! This stands for WRAP up in a t-shirt (and wrap on some sunglasses), SPLAT on some sun cream (ideally SPF50), and of course wear a HAT!
Summer Explorers will be bringing all of these sun safety tips to children aged 5-11 in a memorable, meaningful way. There are tons of completely free educational resources to make use of including:
- A whole-school assembly, starring Davina McCall and consultant dermatologist Doctor Mary, introducing everyone to the Wrap, Splat, Hat mantra
- Lesson guides and activity sheets full of exciting, engaging tasks which help children develop sensory awareness, self-reflection, communication and writing skills as they explore outdoors
- Fun competitions (with a chance to win great prizes, including a shiny new bike and scooter, binoculars for exploring and outdoor play equipment for your school)
- A family pack filled with brilliant outdoor activity ideas and expert sun safety tips from Doctor Mary so that families can make the most of spending time outside during summer
To top it off, early competition sign-ups to the programme will be able to get free Garnier Ambre Solaire Kids travel-sized sun cream for themselves and their primary school!
The programme meets curricular criteria in Personal, Health & Social (PSHE) Education and in English and also helps to develop children’s understanding of the world around them. The free resources will empower little explorers to think about their own sun safety as well as sun safety for their friends and family and will keep them remembering to Wrap, Splat, Hat all summer long even after the lessons are over!
Plus there are two fun competitions for KS1 and KS2 kids to get stuck into!

We want to see the most inventive places for your backpack to pose for a photo – up a tree, on a beach, playing on the swings in your local park – the more fun the better! (But don’t forget to respect local Covid guidelines)
