It’s easy to think that the past six weeks in lockdown is just an extended summer holiday. With the weather improving, the lighter evenings and spending time in the garden. I can fool myself into thinking that we have just pressed pause on the remote control of life. Of course, we haven’t done that. The world to some extent is still continuing outside our little comfort zone. Whilst there are things that I am beginning to miss from the outside world, I don’t feel that we are in a position to lift the lockdown and go about our business as we once did.
Doorstep photography
One of the things that I have loved seeing on social media during the lockdown is the doorstep photos. With local photographers taking snapshots of families on their doorsteps whilst on their daily walk. I was thrilled when one of our local photographers, Richard Jarmy Photography, mentioned on our community Facebook group that he would be heading around our estate taking a few photos. No charge for the photos, but a request to pop a donation over to Nelson’s Journey as a thank you.
Grabbing the opportunity to have a few photos of the five of us taken by someone else rather than attempting to set up the tripod and camera. I sent him a message to see if he could squeeze us into his route. Thankfully he said yes and we had some quick snapshots taken before What The Dad Said headed out to work.
Needless to say, the photos are beautiful and a wonderful way to record a time when the world was a very different place. Piglet was so excited that she finally managed to see someone other than our faces since the schools closed. If you get the opportunity to do this I urge you to do so.
I don’t want to do my homework
Although Roo and Tigger have gotten themselves into a good routine when it comes to homeschooling. PE with Joe followed by time at the table until lunchtime (or whenever they finish their tasks for that day). Then the rest of the day is theirs, apart from reading before bed.
Piglet, on the other hand, isn’t too interested in sitting at down and completing activities alongside her siblings. With requests of ‘I don’t want to do my homework’ muttered on more than one occasion. Whilst she is learning in different ways. With school YouTube videos, ClickView videos, apps and learning through play. Helping count out plates and cutlery at mealtimes, colouring by numbers and playing Orchard Toys games.
Family games room
We are fortunate to have an additional room downstairs that can be utilised in a number of different ways. Originally it was our dining room, with the children’s playroom in the other room. Then we swapped the rooms around and the playroom became the dining room. With the former dining room becoming a place for What The Dad Said to showcase his LEGO collection as we all as a PC etc. However, life at home during lockdown has highlighted that as a family we are often doing similar things but in different areas of the home.
So we’ve taken the decision to turn the room into a family games room. We are a family of gamers (not for everyone I understand, but we enjoy it) be it on the PC, Xbox or PS4. Not to mention the work that is completed on our laptops for work or school. A reshuffle of the room and relocation of some things around the home and it is starting to take shape. We have an Amazon list set up for the things we need to buy so we can purchase things as funds allow.
