There’s nothing better than a well-maintained garden space. It’s a brilliant place to relax, have fun with friends and family and even enjoy a barbecue or two over the spring and summer months. If you have an area of lawn, maintaining the grass with a decent lawnmower is important.
But which model should you choose for your particular lawn?
We’ve been taking a closer look at lawn mower choices for different homes. As we’ll see, much depends on one big factor – the size of the lawn area itself.
The Small Lawn
If you only have a relatively small section of grass that you want to keep cut and tidy, you should probably look at a manual lawnmower. These are cheap and easy to use and generally have a rotating blade that operates when you push them along the ground. They are also easy to store and keep clean.
If you have mobility issues, however, and find it difficult to push a manual lawn mower, something like a small hover mower will also be suitable.
Small to Medium-Sized Lawns
For bigger lawns, there is a huge range of lawnmowers that you could choose from. These include basic hover mowers as well as more heavy-duty rotary mowers that also have a compartment for collecting the cut grass.
Most likely you will want one with an electric cord but there are also models on the market nowadays that have battery packs and don’t require a plug socket. These cordless mowers have improved over the last few years and give a good amount of charge even for slightly larger lawns.
Our advice is to choose a mower that gets the job done and is easy to store away.
Large Lawns
If you have a larger lawn, you’ll want something with more power and easier cutting. This will probably mean that corded electric lawn mowers aren’t suitable as they won’t reach to all parts of your garden.
The obvious choice is for a petrol rotary mower which has a collection bag or compartment. Cordless lawn mowers may be suitable but you have to take into account whether the charged battery will allow you to cover the whole area you have in one go.
Size and Ease of Use
One thing that is important to consider is how easy the lawnmower is to use. If you are elderly and need something lightweight, there is plenty to choose from and it’s worth looking at reviews and taking your time before picking a particular model. You will also want to consider where you are going to store your lawnmower.
Price
Of course, another consideration is the cost of the lawnmower. Manual mowers are relatively cheap but you should always go for quality rather than looking at the very lowest price. When you move into larger mowers, especially petrol operated ones, the price will naturally rise but again it’s important to choose a model that is robust and suitable for your area of lawn.
