When it comes to your dental health, being informed is key to being able to feel at ease. Looking after your teeth is vital, and thankfully there are many gadgets and gizmos available to give you that extra bit of certainty and security about them. The latest generations of electric toothbrushes can even be connected to health apps to make sure you have all the information you need.

Finding the right device with this great range of possibilities can be tricky, and you want to strike the right balance between paying a good amount and getting the most use you can from the device. Read on for our suggestions as to the best app-connected electric toothbrushes available now.

First of all, why would anyone need an app-connected electric toothbrush anyway?

Asking “why would anyone need this?” is often a legitimate question for any new technology. In this case, if you have been told by your dentist that your teeth are healthy and there are not any issues or signs suggesting future issues with them, this technology is probably not necessary. But, if you feel like you could be brushing your teeth better, it can offer a valuable service.

By being wirelessly connected to an app on your phone, the toothbrush can track its location and where it goes and build up a picture of the inside of your mouth and where and how you brush. From here it is possible to build up a more detailed image of what is going on in your mouth, and which areas you are brushing too much or too little. This can help you to solve problems of plaque build-up where you were not aware your toothbrush was not reaching or give warning that you are over-brushing in another area.

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected

This toothbrush, with its rather long and ponderous name, is one of a generation of new Bluetooth-connected devices which will map your mouth and do a host of other functions. It also sets a timer for the 2 minutes you are recommended to spend brushing your teeth and can let you know when to replace the brush head, while also sending inspiring messages and reminders. However, as The Verge reports, the price, while about the same as for the unconnected top of the range Phillips brush, is higher than the price of Oral-B’s similar-seeming Oral-B Pro 5000.

Oral-B Pro 5000 and the Oral-B-app

Occupying a very similar space in the market, Oral-B’s wirelessly connected toothbrush, the Oral-B Pro 5000 and the connected app performs many of the same functions. The company states that users who changed from an Oral-B power toothbrush to one with a connection to the app saw plaque reduction of 73% after only a fortnight of consistent use.

The information can be shared with your dental professional, so whether you see a dentist in London or in Aberdeen, you will have access to new information about your brushing routine which can give you a far healthier mouth fast.
