If you are a family, in a home with children and perhaps a pet, you will likely understand just how much stuff you can accumulate over time. It seems to come from nowhere. From little toys here to school materials there to hobbyist crafts over here and strange devices all around, it can sometimes feel as though your home is being taken over by some kind of mischievous entity that enjoys spawning odd belongings wherever you go.

You wouldn’t be the first to think this. Unfortunately, you won’t be the first to have to sort it out either. All homes run the risk of looking cluttered and becoming quite cramped to live in, despite their size if this is not tended to. Thankfully, this needn’t be some kind of onerous duty you have to live out for the rest of your days, because it can actually be quite fun to sort this out. It can help you once again redecorate your home, help you consider a new design approach or simply organize things more neatly to see your home in its best light.

With this in mind, let us consider some worthwhile advice:

Sell, Sell, Sell!

Decluttering your home can prove quite difficult because it seems as though you are throwing out straight value from your halls. However, if you make the effort to sell certain items, you might be able to raise money for further projects or investments. For example, it might be that you still have a comic book collection taking up three boxes worth of space in your attic, and because you wish to renovate this space, it needs to go.

You would be surprised just how many people out there hunger to purchase and preserve vintage comic books, so you could make quite a pretty penny. This is a specific example, but it illustrates that what might be clutter to you could be something of real value to someone else. If you’re unsure as to the value of an item, there’s no harm in having it appraised.

Move In Stages

It can be quite hard to get rid of your items from your home. This is because if your home is cluttered already, odds are you enjoy keeping things and dislike letting things go, although of course, you may be very far from any kind of pathology. Still, sometimes it can take some convincing to figure out if this is for you or not, and so, in this case, we would recommend investing in storage options. This way you can still keep the items in a secure location and they will still belong to you, but you can see just what your home would look like without so much stuff everywhere.

Organise Your Items Together

It might not be just how much stuff you have, but how it is presented. For example, if you have books all over the home without any rhyme or reason, your home will look cluttered. Investing in a nice bookshelf or wall shelving and categorizing the books together can help things look a little nicer than they might have, helping you focus on the decluttering issues that really need your attention.

With this advice, we hope you can find the decluttering process much more viable and enjoyable.
