Design Trends To Totally Get On Board With

July 21, 2017

There is nothing wrong with enjoying the latest trends, especially decor design trends. There, we said it. Not only that, but we meant it too. All too many people tell you to design with longevity in mind, but where is the fun in that? Where is the fun in having a blue cotton sofa and magnolia walls? Where is the fun in playing it safe with colors and not daring to venture out with textures? There isn’t any and life is too short not to grant yourself the simple pleasures of fun.

That is why we have been rooting around in the underbelly of interior design to see exactly what the professionals are saying when it comes to decor. The fact it may fall out of fashion faster than your daughter’s fidget spinner or your son’s Pokemon Go app is irrelevant. They get to indulge in trends, and so should you.

So, without further ado, we bring to you, the big movements you need to embrace if you want to be the epitome of fashionable for the next couple of years at least. Enjoy.

Very, Very Velvet

The great thing about this trend is velvet seems to enjoy more successful comebacks than Britney Spears and Robert Downey Jr put together. This is because no one can escape the fact that velvet oozes luxury. It is that sought after texture that has become synonymous with royalty, sophistication, elegance, and worldliness. The great news is, you don’t have to fork out a couple of grand on a new velvet Chesterfield in order to enjoy this trend in your home. Velvet cushions, velvet throws, velvet rugs and curtains and just about anything else you can imagine will all have the desired impact. Even in small doses, it is warm and heavy enough to bring a splash of luxe to your space.

Jewels Are In

Unfortunately, we not talking about gorgeous necklace, bracelets or rings, so try to hold off on nudging your partner and dropping another not-so-subtle hint. That is unless you want to update your home a little bit, in which case nudge away. You see, the latest color trends in interior design seem to be the kind of tones you’d find in gorgeous jewels. Dark blues, deep greens, ruby reds, golds, and oranges. Basically, a rich palette is in. If that isn’t you, though, don’t despair just yet because earthy colors are still dominating the scene as well. People really like having homes that embrace natural tones. Nice, warm, earthy tones. If you want to spruce this up just a little bit then try adding a pale pink as an accent color here and there.

Spine-Tingling Textures

If you’re sat there, tapping your chin and think that texture in the home is absolutely nothing new, then pat yourself on the back because you have clearly been paying attention. However, there seem to be no signs of it slowing down, which makes it a great trend to get in on. Yup, the texture trend is going up a notch or two. Pleats will get bigger, folds will become more obvious and buttons will start to embed themselves in places you’ve never seen them. Of course, that isn’t all because the bigger pieces of furniture will also start to champion texture too. We’re talking about living room furniture for your home. We’re talking about pallet coffee tables, faux fur, cut-out animal skin rugs driftwood beds with bamboo mattresses. The reason people like texture so much is because it brings another layer of comfort into the living room and the home; that nice warm feeling we get from walking in the front door, happy to be back.

Return Of The Retro

It’s amazing how fashion trends peak and trough, peter out and then flood back in. You’ve probably noticed it with the fashion choices of the younger generation. Well, in terms of interior design, the 1970s is making a resurgence, and rightly so. That decade was amazing in terms of design. It was bold and brave, a mishmash of colors that collided wonderfully with geometric shapes. It was all brass furnishings and brushed metal. And it is all coming back. The great news about this is… well… there are a couple of great things about this. First off, your home is going to be funky and fun. The second is, you may be able to get away with just popping into your attic (or your parent’s attic) and pulling something genuinely vintage and retro down. Or you could just do a little retail therapy in your local charity shops. Either way, barely a penny will be spent. Now that is the kind of design we like.
