How to Get Your Garden Ready for Summer

April 13, 2017

As the warmer weather approaches, many people are starting to dust off their barbecues, uncover their sun loungers and blow up the paddling pool. However, to get your garden in tip-top shape before summer arrives, there are few other things you’ll need to do too. Making sure your garden’s looking and feeling fresh, will help to create a wonderful outdoor living space for you and your family.

Show Your Lawn Some Love

The first thing that may need attention is your lawn, because, after a long, hard winter, it might not be in the best condition. Poor patches will need re-sowing with seeds, and you’ll need to try to get rid of some of the most common types of lawn weed, e.g. the white-flowering clover. Mowing your lawn will also help to give a fresh look, just remember not to cut it too short as this can make it look patchy and less healthy.

Get Your Entertainment Space Prepped

Summer’s the perfect time for entertaining, especially when you want to have friends around who’ve also got kids. The kids can enjoy hours of fun in the garden, while you and your friends watch on from the comfort of your seating area.

To get your seating area up to scratch again, consider painting your furniture and adding to the space with pots of plants, lighting and other garden accessories. Need to create an outdoor space? Then why not opt for decking from a company such as Travis Perkins, as this will provide you with a contemporary seating area that’s incredibly easy to maintain.

Rejuvenate Your Fences

Your garden fence has probably had to battle with a number of elements throughout the colder winter months, so may need a little TLC to bring it back to life again. Your entire garden can be lifted when you give your fencing a lick of paint, which is why it’s a great idea to do this before summer officially arrives.

Even though there are a few chores to do in the garden, they’ll be well worth it. Summer is the perfect time for kicking back, relaxing and enjoying quality time with family and friends. Whether you enjoy reading, like cooking on the barbecue or playing sports with the kids, your garden is the perfect retreat, and one you can enjoy all summer long – especially as the nights start to draw out even further.
