With spring officially beginning on the 20th March, now is the perfect time to get your garden ready with a good old-fashioned spring clean. The temperature is slowly rising and the evenings are getting lighter, it’s the perfect time to get out in the garden and invite some friends.
Winter is likely to have left your garden is disarray. Luckily furniture suppliers Race Furniture have compiled a spring clean checklist for you and your garden.
How to get your garden in shape for spring
Take care of the patio
First thing first, you need to wash off all that winter grime and muck. If you use a pressure washer, be careful. These are pretty powerful devices! If you go for the pressure washer option make sure you are wearing safety goggles and gloves. Furthermore, ensure that all the connections are sealed tightly before turning on the power.
However, you could simply use buckets of water and a brush if this is an easier option for you, it will just take a little longer. By starting with the patio first, it will put you in good stead for the rest of your garden.
Think about your furniture
No matter how you store your patio furniture and cushions, they will definitely need to be cleaned, repaired or replaced. If your cushions are only fairly new, then a basic scrub should do the job. Cleaning your patio furniture should be an annual job. This way, you can ensure they remain in good condition for years to come.
However, if your furniture has suffered since the previous summer, then it may be time to invest in some new garden furniture to help bring in the spring. If you love having people over, stacking chairs are always a safe bet to provide extra seating.
You could also treat yourself to a dining set and parasol to shade your guests in time for the summer. These days, patio heaters are all the rage and will keep your friends and family warm, even when the temperature drops.
Mend the fences
Your fences have probably suffered during winter, so mending them is highly advised. At the very least, a quick paint job can make a huge difference. If you have grown tired of your wooden colour, why not try a brighter shade this spring?
Work the soil, prune the shrubs and eradicate pests
Last but not least, time to get ready for the gardening itself! Get rid of old compost piles, prune the bushes, work the soil and – of course – do no forget to exterminate. Early spring is the ideal time to think about if you will be planting any new bushes and flowers, so a quick trip to the garden centre might be in order.
