Time & Tide Museum | Halfway to Paradise: The Birth of British Rock

August 16, 2016

One of the attractions in Great Yarmouth that we have visited the most has to be the Time & Tide Museum. Located within a converted Victorian herring curing works, it showcases Great Yarmouth’s rich maritime and fishing heritage. Alongside this, there are events held throughout the year showcasing something new and exciting to pop along to and learn more about.

Harry Hammond was Britain’s leading showbiz photographer for nearly two decades. Starting in the late 1940s, he captured the definitive images of virtually every leading British musician, as well as many visiting American artists. From Tommy Steele to the Beatles and Shirley Bassey to Dusty Springfield, Harry Hammond captured the emergence of the British rock ‘n’ rollers.

This exhibition promises to take visitors on a journey back to the birth of British rock through photographs from the collections of the V&A.

The Halfway to Paradise: The Birth of British Rock event is located with the top gallery and events room towards the end of the museum trail. It can be accessed to the right-hand side of the reception area up the stairs if you are eager to see the amazing Harry Hammond photographs without walking around the rest of the museum.

Boo Roo and Tigger Too’s thoughts…

The Time & Tide Museum has always been a favourite of Roo’s, she especially loves to see what activities and events they are holding each time we visit. The Halfway to Paradise event showcases all the musical talent that once graced the stages of Great Yarmouth, including all the big names.

It’s lovely being able to pass onto the next generation the sights and sounds of British Rock that our own parents passed on to us. The different music tracks playing in the background as you walk around enjoying the amazing photographs from Harry Hammond will have you singing away in no time.

Roo and Tigger loved the interactive features of the event from dressing up the Beatles to getting dressed up themselves…
