This Thursday saw Roo’s school celebrating Harvest Festival. Children were asked to bring in either non-perishables earlier in the week or fresh produce on Thursday. The collected food would then be distributed between the older community residences within easy reach of the school and the Salvation Army who would share it with those in need in our local town.
Children where also told that they could make a basket of food to give to those in need, so Roo decided that she would like to make a basket filled with fruit and vegetables. After school on Wednesday we popped to our local Aldi to stock up on the super 6 (great quality fruit and vegetables at just 69p per pack, which changes each week). As there was so much to chose from we opted to fill a large basket that could feed two or three families.
On the morning of the Harvest Festival we carried it into school and I attended her Harvest Festival assembly were the local priest talked to the children about the importance of the harvest and why we share our food with those less fortunate. The children sang some beautiful songs, of which Roo’s year would be singing again in the afternoon when they deliver the food baskets.
However, there is always one song that gets the children singing that little bit louder, doing the actions with a little more effort… Big Red Combine Harvester. So I’ll leave you with the lyrics and you too can have a little sing-a-long.
