Whilst I was pregnant with both my children I read all the magazines, the books and watched the TV programmes that filled my head with the knowledge needed for both my pregnancies and for giving birth. The two emergency c-sections however were only covered briefly, a sub-chapter in the books that read ‘you may need a c-section’.
Throughout pregnancy and labour mums are supported by midwives, health professionals and willing family and friends. Once you have your baby some will say ‘this is when the hard work begins’ and if I’m honest, they are so true. Suddenly your partner has gone back to work, family and friends continue with their day-to-day lives and you find yourself alone with this little bundle of joy.
Babies don’t come with a manual and whilst most things you will inevitably get the hang of the first few weeks, months and even years can be a testing time for new mums. When I had my first child I felt so cut off from the world, with my own Mum living miles away, my in-laws living aboard and my friends not at the baby stage of their lives I was often unsure as to whether I was doing OK as a parent.
When I did meet up with friends with babies I would, like most people sit and compare my child to theirs. Why did their child roll over before my child? Am I not playing with my child enough? As we live in a technology lead world I would often (and still do) turn to the internet for help and advice.
I’ve teamed up with SMA Nutrition on their B.A.B.Y. (Baby Advice By You) campaign to help new mums have access to those golden nuggets of advice that other mums have lived through the first few days and sleepless nights, come out the other side and have shared in the hope of making future mums lives that little bit easier.
My advice or golden nugget is a little bit of a funny one…
So this is the part where I’ve shared mine so you need to share yours with me…
The team over at SMA Nutrition and myself are asking other mums to submit their own pieces of advice to the SMA Nutrition Website .A panel will then choose the top 10 favourites who will be invited to London, so that they can enjoy a makeover and get to record their golden advice on film! The recorded videos will then be added to the SMA Nutrition You Tube Channel along with the rest of the library (I wish I was getting treated to a makeover). Plus, each winner will also receive a £250 voucher for a local spa of their choice.
Click here for terms and conditions. Competition starts today and all entries must be received by no later than midnight on Sunday, 1 February 2015.
So what are you waiting for head over there now and share your wisdom!
