Kate Middleton is my #ARWOMAN

January 12, 2015

Throughout our lives there are people who inspire us, from our teachers, our friends, and most importantly our families. Each of these different groups inspires us in a different way, our teachers will inspire us to work hard and get the best out of us as they can. Our friends inspire us to be better people, teaching us about loyalty, forgiveness and how to have fun. Our families inspire us to see the best in everyone, accept the good and the bad and how you can face any problem if you have your family to support you.

Inspirational people can be both people you have met or those who you aspire to meet or even those who you aspire to be like.

Atterley Road recently asked me ‘Who inspires you?‘ as part of their #ARWOMAN campaign to showcase all the amazing women in the world who are an inspiration to others.

Kate Middleton is my #ARWOMAN

You might think it is a little strange that I have opted for Kate Middleton as my #ARWOMAN, however whilst I have never had the pleasure of meeting her she inspires me from her everyday clothes, I love that she will recycle and wear clothes that she has already been photographed in rather than a wear once strategy. She is however much more than just a finely dressed lady, a girl who married a prince, inspired new mums and is giving back with her charity work.

Marrying a prince

Kate had the awful nickname of Waity Katie by the press as she waited in the sidelines for Prince William to ask her to marry her. During their relationship, the highs and the lows I believe that she has proved herself much more than someone just waiting around for an engagement ring. She never sold her story to the press or brought the Royal family any cause for concern.

Kate fulfilled every little girl’s dream of marrying her prince on 29th April 2011, I know I certainly dreamt of marrying a prince when I was younger (and I possibly had a poster or two of Prince William on my bedroom wall too).

The birth of Prince George

After the birth of Prince George she stood on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital, London in a beautiful pastel blue polka dot dress. Those of you who know me will know that made me very happy that Kate Middleton chose a polka dot outfit to wear whilst showing the young Prince George to the world for the first time. What made that photo opportunity more real was that Kate stood alongside her husband whilst still showing her post-baby bump. With that small step she made new mums up and down the country feel better in themselves for leaving hospital after having their baby with a bump – anyone who tells you that you lose your bump as soon as you have given birth is wrong!

Following the birth of Prince George she has shown that she wants to be a hands on mum opting to spend time at her parents home to recuperate and ease her way in to life as a new parent. With her second baby due this year I am sure that she will have new skills to learn juggling the parenting of two children but something that her family will be there to help support her in and of course Prince William will be by her side.

Charity work

Kate seems to be following in Diana’s footsteps in choosing charities that she truly cares about to support and become Patron. Back in 2012 she pledged her support to one of our local charities the East Anglia Children’s Hospices and recently spoke to support their 10m fundraising appeal to build a children’s hospice in Norfolk.

Her enthusiasm for children’s charities is also shown in her dedication to the Scout’s Association and as my daughter Roo is a Cub Scout she is living in hope that maybe they will gain a surprise visit from Kate Middleton (a girl can hope).

So who inspires you?

There is of course no right or wrong answer to this as we all find inspiration in different people
