With Spring in full swing, it is time to pull out those dusters, cloths and marigolds for a spot of Spring cleaning. Whether you are someone who has a cleaning schedule or someone who wings it from week to week, Spring really does mark the time to get everything pulled out and wiped down so that you can enjoy the summer knowing that you don’t have to do the really dirty jobs for a good few months.
Spring Cleaning Tips and Tricks
Check the filters
Our kitchen appliances are used more and more every day, they have revolutionised our modern lives but ensure that we are getting the best from them make sure that you check the washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwashers filter regularly
Use an oven liner
Cleaning the oven has to be one of my least favourite jobs. Help keep your oven clean by lining the bottom with a non-stick oven liner. It can be wiped with a micro fibre cloth, popped in the dishwasher, and reused over and over.
Catch the grease
Hate cleaning on top of your kitchen cupboards? After giving them one final clean down, place newspaper onto of them to catch the grease which you can simply replace every few months
Labels, labels, labels
Make or purchase labels to help keep everything in its place. For example, I have labels that I made on the front of my children’s drawers so that they know where to put the clothes when they have to put their clean washing away
Organisation is the way forward
If you organise an area it is more likely to stay that way as you’ll be conscious of messing it up when you put the next thing away. For bulking items such as bedding sets, store the duvet cover and bed sheet inside the pillow case to keep them together as well as looking neat and tidy
Get the children involved
Label up some baskets with Bin/Donate/Keep on them and send the children into the playroom to go through their old toys. Not only will this keep them occupied whilst you complete other chores around them but it involves them in the decision-making about their toys and games.
27 dresses
Time to clear out that wardrobe, for the items that you can’t bear to part with pop back into the wardrobe with the hanger the wrong way round to see whether or not you truly do wear everything that you have kept. Anything that is still the wrong way round in a couple of months needs to be donated to charity or listed on a for sale forum.
Don’t get distracted
When cleaning a room it is easy to come across items that belong in another room, instead of taking them back to the correct room there and then, pop them all into a basket which you can then sort once you have finished
