Ah, beautiful Berkshire, with its stunning greenery and historic buildings. Whether you’re heading to the area with your youngsters for a quintessentially British break, or you’re local to this quaint area of the English countryside, it’s always handy to have a number of attractions at hand which will keep the kids entertained.
Not too far out of London city centre, Berkshire is the ideal break if you are either located in London or you want to pair a quick West End visit with something more serene. Berkshire goes to show that to achieve a relaxing family break away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life doesn’t require much more than a train ride outside of the Big Smoke. Can you believe?
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at five of the very best things to do with the family in Berkshire…
Family attractions to visit in Berkshire
LEGOLAND Windsor
Where else could steal the number one top spot than the UK’s largest Legoland resort? As well as offering a jam-packed entertainment schedule, LEGOLAND Windsor is home to tens of LEGO brick inspired rides, a waterpark, and an intricately themed hotel. It makes for a mini-break that you simply have to plan in for at some point before your kids become teens.
Windsor Castle
Perhaps Berkshire’s most famous landmark, Windsor Castle is one of the oldest and largest occupied castles, not only in the UK but across the globe. Harbouring over 900 years of royal history, Windsor Castle is home to The Queen, making for a truly British way to spend a day with the family.
Go Ape! Bracknell
When it comes to high altitude obstacles, no place does it better than the forest king of adventure days, Go Ape! Bracknell. It is a fab family outing for those who have older children, aged 9 and above.
This site features three high rope courses with a toe-tingling 160-metre adrenaline zip wire and 35 crossings comprising of swings, bridges, and ladders. Note, if you do have younger children in tow, a junior course is available for children of at least 1 metre.
The Living Rainforest
Introduce your children to the natural wonders of the deep rainforest, right here in the UK! Newbury’s Living Rainforest is a mammoth indoor greenhouse tropical rainforest which provides an authentic opportunity for children to experience over 700 species of animals and plants, including the beautiful blue poison dart frog, the Goeldi’s monkey, and the cutesy two-toed sloth.
Beale Park
If you’re on the search for the perfect picnic spot, there’s no place better than Beale Park. Nestled on the edge of the Thames in Reading, the park is easily accessible, and has something to offer all ages. Whether you pay a visit to the deer, lemurs, and meerkats of the Beale Park wildlife park, go barefoot on one of its muddy adventure trails, or simply sit back and relax in the gardens as the children play in the park, it all makes for good outdoors family fun.
Do check out their website for details on any seasonal activities, but there’s usually a regular park train, a Little Tikes village, and an aerial cableway to enjoy, too.
