There are people who are naturally attracted to the great outdoors. There’s fresh air and plenty of space to roam about. For kids, playing outdoors can provide them with a variety of opportunities to discover themselves as well as their surroundings. This can help pave the way for a better understanding of how certain things work. When it comes to outdoor activities that kids will really love, there are literally thousands of them, often depending on the kind of outdoor environment you’re in. Nevertheless, we’re sharing with you 5 outdoor activities your kids will love.
5 Outdoor Activities Your Kids Will Love
Go biking or even skateboarding
Technically, any type of ride-on toy will be an instant hit, especially for boys. Even girls will have a great time riding their roller skates as well as lady bikes and tricycles complete with Frozen and Barbie motifs. Taking any of these ride-on toys for a spin is like taking your car for a drive down memory lane. Riding these toys can bring lots of fun, the chance to explore the surroundings, and develop a sense of balance, coordination, and motor skills of children.
Fly a drone, an RC helicopter, or a kite
In the past, children would run through the prairies or even on beaches tugging their lines to fly their kites. And you could easily see the wide smile plastered on their faces. You can still see these spectacles today, that is if you do choose to go out and fly a kite. However, more and more kids find flying an RC drone or helicopter more fascinating and more high-tech, especially if the rig happens to have a built-in motion picture camera as well. The ability to perform a variety of tricks and stunts can instantly appeal to children of all ages. For a great selection of kids’ drones, check out this awesome guide from My Kid Needs That
Go camping beside a lake or even in your backyard
Call it an introduction to living in the wilderness, but camping can really be a fun way for kids to discover a lot of things. If you’re not sure if your kid will like it, you can set up a tent right in your backyard, start a bonfire during the night, and share a story or two while everyone is roasting their brand of marshmallows. There’s just one rule: no one is allowed to go inside the house. Once your kid has grown accustomed to living “outside” the home, then you can start planning for a real camping trip. It sure is a great way to learn how to survive with only the most basic of necessities.
Schedule regular weekend barbecues
Getting every member of the family to partake in a mini feast of barbecue and other delectable delicacies every weekend can help inculcate in the minds of young kids the need for strengthening family ties and other social bonds on a regular basis. You can ask older kids to help you prepare the meals. For younger kids, you can get them their own weekend barbecue play set so they can also role-play what they see. This helps build their confidence in the process of weekend barbecues.
Plan geo-orienteering activities with your kids
You can still use the more traditional method of using maps and compasses. However, you can also use the more modern approach of geo-orienteering using any GPS-enabled device and the built-in map functionality of such devices as smartphones and tablets. The added beauty is that you can geotag items or places that your kids will find very interesting. They can then automatically upload this and contribute to the growing wealth of knowledge we have about this planet.
There are so many things we can do in the great outdoors. Because kids may not realize all of these yet, it’s up to us to decide on the really fun activities that our children will truly enjoy once they step out of their homes.
