Often, a Scottish family break is all about appreciating the beauty of unspoilt British nature. And this will most definitely define your trip together to Loch Lomond.

Located in southern Scotland, this stunning spot is surrounded by highlands, native fauna and flora, and myriad opportunities to embark on hiking or cycling adventures. If you consider yourself an outdoorsy family, this is certainly a staycation location that should be top of your to-do list.

Although you may be quite happy marvelling in the wonder of Loch Lomond’s landscapes, from time to time a day out can enhance your family adventure. Of course, you will want to stick with the theme of nature, and Loch Lomond attractions certainly know the score.

SEA LIFE Loch Lomond

With countless tanks featuring an abundance of marine life, SEA LIFE Loch Lomond is an attraction that will amaze young visitors. The aquarium’s stunning walk-through tunnels allow you and your children to become completely immersed in the ocean, as you view incredible sharks and giant turtles overhead.

Refurbished for 2017, the Predators of the Reef exhibition showcases some of the fiercest and most venomous predators from the seas. Amongst Scotland’s largest collection of sharks, expect to see Lionfish, stingrays, and moray eels. see  

Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre

With over 35 birds of prey and owls at the Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre, this attraction is the only one of its kind in the UK to home every species of British owl. Nestled in natural woodland, this back-to-basics day out also provides the family with a chance to see a Golden Eagle up close.

Loch Lomond Faerie Trail

Instil a sense of wonder, magic and mystery in all young children on a visit to Loch Lomond’s Faerie Trail. As you meander through the area natural woodland, families join together in a quest to uncover all-things-enchanted, discovering mythical creatures such as trolls and faeries. The adventure is driven by a delightful story which will engross children, truly capturing their imagination.

Balloch Castle Country Park

Nothing inspires play quite like castle ruins. From tales of brave knights and princesses to ogres, sorcerers, and magical creatures, if you have tots in tow, a visit to Ballock Castle Country Park makes for a delightful day out.

Pack up a picnic – although there is a cafe on site – and let kids explore the castle ruins and their surrounding grounds. Whether they enjoy the creative play of their own on the lawns, or they take to the great adventure play park, they’re sure to have a hoot at one of Loch Lomond’s most famous landmarks.

Go Ape Aberfoyle

A little outside of Loch Lomond, but well worth the trip, is Go Ape Aberfoyle. Perfect for families with older children, over the age of 10, the park boasts one of the longest Zip Wires in the UK, measuring in at 120 feet high and 426 metres long.

Mums and Dads can master the ropes with their tweens and teens, tackling tricky obstacles and a whole host of toe-tingling crossings.
