4 Things to do Before Winter Arrives

Winter is on the way, which means that the colder weather is just around the corner. During the winter of 2018, even parts of the UK that rarely have snow found themselves with a thick covering of the white stuff. This severe winter weather created widespread disruption across the UK. Whether there will be more snow this winter remains to be seen, but it certainly makes sense to be prepared for whatever this winter has in store.

Get Your Boiler Checked

Ironically, the time that you need your boiler the most is often the time it is most likely to stop working. Make sure that you get your boiler serviced before the cold weather arrives, and if you have been planning to replace your boiler for a while, now could be the best time to do it.

To keep your home warm and toasty over the winter, your boiler has to work extra hard. The extra work needed to keep your heating running over the winter could be too much for an older boiler. For obvious reasons, the winter months are a busy time for heating engineers, and you could be left with a long wait for an engineer to get to you. Having your boiler serviced ahead of winter, will flag up any potential problems and give you the chance to get them resolved before freezing temperatures arrive.

Get Your Car Serviced

No one wants to be left stranded in their car in the middle of nowhere, especially not during freezing temperatures. While you can never eliminate 100 per cent the chances of a breakdown, having your car serviced could help.

Car maintenance is an essential task throughout the year, but the winter can bring more hazardous driving conditions. Knowing that your car is as up together as it can be will give you some peace of mind when you are driving in the winter.

Check Your Medicine Cabinet

The arrival of winter always means one thing; cough and cold season is here! If you have kids, you will know all too well, how winter bugs spread like wildfire at school, and then get brought home too.

It’s a good idea to go through your medicine cabinet before illness strikes so that you can dispose of any out of date medicines and then re-stock your cupboard with items you feel you might need. Doing this will ensure that you are well-prepared if someone in the family does get ill over the winter.

Don’t forget to keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children, and make sure that you dispose of them correctly.

Get Ready to Get Cosy

One of the best things about winter is spending time together as a family getting cosy and warm. If you don’t already have one, soft and snuggly throws are perfect for winter nights in on the sofa. You may also want to swap your duvets for a higher tog rating to help you to keep warm on those chilly nights.
